A 15-year-old girl from Miller County was killed in a two-car collision
seven miles north of Mount Vernon Wednesday evening.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 5:15 p.m., on
Highway 96, seven miles north of Mount Vernon.
Driver Daniel Freeman, 35, of Miller, was headed east when he tried to
pass another vehicle. Freeman lost control and slid off the left-hand
side of the road.
A pickup truck driven by Ethan Dade, 19, of Mount Vernon, swerved to avoid
a crash, but hit Freeman's car.
Teenager Kayla Freeman, a passenger in the the car, was killed.
Another passenger, 14-year-old Nicholas Freeman was transported to St.
John's Hospital in Springfield for moderate injuries, the patrol said.
Both passengers were from Miller, according to the patrol.
This was the 100th fatality this year for the patrol's Troop D.
