After hitting road debris on a Tennessee freeway, a Tesla Model S electric car caught fire. This is the third of this make and model to catch fire within five weeks.
The Tesla Model S undercarriage is made of armor plating that should protect the battery. Tesla does not know yet if the fire involved the car’s battery.
Although this is the third model to catch fire, this is the second model to catch fire after hitting road debris.
While none of the drivers in the Tesla accidents were injured, the news of the fires are affecting the sales of the Tesla models drastically.
The Model S, which starts at about $70,000 and can go up to 265 miles on a single charge seemed to be a good investment at first, but since the recent fires, some are questioning the safeness of these models.
