College Baseball Changes to Wood-Like Bats

Posted on May 28th, 2011 No Comments

As all avid baseball fans know, the professionals use wood bats while the college ranks have used high-tech composite bats. The results of high-tech bats means higher scoring games as a result of the extreme power generated by the high-tech bats. The same power that captivates the audience with 400′ homeruns, can also lead to deadly consequences for the pitcher and first-base coach.

Consequently, college sports has taken a stand for safety. The governing body now requires composite bats to have smaller “sweet spots” and perform more like wood bats. This results in a more traditional baseball score and a safer game. A win win.
