An Ohio police officer was left unable to walk after being hit by a drunk driver last Thursday.
The 32 year-old officer was searching a road area for narcotics that had been thrown from a vehicle. While doing so, he was hit from behind by a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 34 year-old man. The driver of the Silverado fled the scene but returned a few minutes later and was arrested. The driver was found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.289 percent and was charged with a DUI.
The police officer was taken to the hospital, where doctors told his family that he had less than a one percent chance of walking again due to extensive damage to his spinal cord. His family recently gave a press conference where they expressed gratitude for him to still be alive.
