MoDot will be conducting a public campaign from April 16 to May 6, which reminds motorists to drive safely around tractor trailers.

Stay out of a truck’s blind spots or “No Zone”. Big rigs have large blind spots on either side and up to 200 feet behind a vehicle. Pass only on the left side.

Watch your following distance. Keep a safety cushion around trucks. Can you see the truck’s side mirrors? If not, the driver cannot see you.
Seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45 percent. Drivers are required by state law to wear their seat belt. Failure to do so can result in a citation. Interstate commercial drivers risk both the driver and company’s safety score if operating without a seat belt.

All lanes of the eastbound I-70 were closed at Route K for two hours after a truck accident occurred.

The accident began as a man in a pickup truck was driving down the roadway and struck the back of a contractor worker from MoDOT’s truck  that was parked under the overpass of a bridge that the man was preparing to paint.

The driver of the pickup truck was injured in the accident and was airlifted to the hospital to be treated. The accident occurred around 11 a.m. and the roads remained closed until 1 p.m.

A man from Noesho was injured after being involved in an accident with a dump truck.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol,  the accident occurred as the 27-year-old man was driving a vehicle and rear-ended a dump truck that was stationary in a temporary work zone on Route AA.

The dump truck was a roadside mower owned by the Missouri Department of Transportation. The man was transported to St. John’s Hospital in Joplin to be treated for his injuries after the accident.

Both drivers in a car and truck accident on Mo. 15 were injured last week.

The accident occurred just outside of Paris when a 49-year-old man was traveling southbound and a 29-year-old woman was driving a truck when she slowed to make a right turn onto a private street.

The 49-year-old man then swerved his vehicle in order to avoid a collision with a vehicle in front of him and he went off the right side of the road, striking the truck. Both drivers were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries, but their current condition is unknown.

A person who allegedly stole a car and drove the wrong way on the road, caused a truck accident that injured six people.

The driver of the truck was speeding away from police and driving the wrong way on U.S. 71. Police were following the vehicle because it had been called in as stolen. Officials found the alleged suspect while he was trying to break into another vehicle.

When he saw the police were onto him, he fled the scene. The chase ended with the truck causing a major accident. Officials have said that the injuries caused in the accident were all non-life threatening.

Missouri Highway Patrol said that a truck driver admitted that he took his eyes off of the road and when he looked up was unable to stop for slowing traffic, causing a truck accident.

The semi-truck rear-ended a car causing a horrific accident on Interstate 55. The semi-truck could not stop in time and it ran over a Ford Focus and drug it 100 yards. The 52-year-old man driving this vehicle was killed.

The semi-truck driver than swerved to the right hitting more cars and killing a 28-year-old female driver. An accident re constructionist is currently reviewing the accident to see if the truck driver is negligent.

A man from Sunrise Beach was injured after a car and semi-truck accident on Highway 65.

The 61-year-old man was driving a GMC at 8:30 a.m. on May 24 when he attempted to cross the highway. When he was in the middle of the intersection he was struck by a semi-truck, which caused his vehicle to go off the side of the road.

The man was wearing a seat belt and suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital to be treated.

One person died and another was seriously injured after an accident between a fertilizer truck and a car.

Missouri Highway Patrol said that the accident occurred on Highway 50 near Route W. The highway remained closed for hours while an investigation was done and the roadway was cleaned up. The injured person was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries, but their current condition is unknown.
