Auto Accident Results in $1,750,000 Settlement
$1,750,000.00 Settlement – In the aftermath of a severe ice storm that resulted in significant power outages throughout Springfield, an employee of an electrical contractor was on his way to assist in the repair efforts when he failed to stop as required at an intersection where the traffic lights had gone out. The plaintiff had properly treated the intersection as a four-way stop and had awaited the appropriate time to continue driving but was struck by the driver of the electrical truck at full speed in the intersection. The plaintiff suffered head trauma which resulted in cerebral hemorrhaging and the subsequent complications included depression, fatigue, changes in personality, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, and significant amounts of missed work time. Moreover, the plaintiff is at risk of future unemployment and early dementia due to the effects of the head injury. A settlement was reached months before the scheduled trial in the amount of $1,750,000.00, with special damages totaling $583,545 for past medical bills, present lost wages, and projected possible future medical expenses and wage losses associated with the accident.
