GM Adds 748,024 Cars To Recall Over Ignition Switches Tied to 13 Deaths, 31 Crashes
GM now knows of 13 deaths and 31 crashes that could have been caused by their faulty ignition switches, which has led to a recall of over 1.37 million vehicles. The recall now covers cars from model years 2003-2007 and models of the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Ion, Saturn Sky, Chevrolet HHR, Chevrolet Cobalt, and Pontiac G5.
The company says that drivers of these cars should use a single key to operate the vehicle and remove all other keys and chains until the repaid has been made.
The ignition switch problem allows the car to unintentionally move or switch to the off position. GM says that jarring or movement caused by key chains could be what is causing the car to switch to the off position. When somebody is going at full speed and this occurs, the air bags are turned off which is the main safety part of a car.
GM is trying to resolve the issue of these faulty ignition switches, but it is a long process to reach all owners of these models.
